At least 10 shops were destroyed in a fire that engulfed Alayabiagba Market at Boundary, Ajegunle, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The fire which started from one of the shops after public electric power was restored soon spread to the other shops.

Giving an update on the incident, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Agency, Dr. Olufemi Osanyintolu said: “The agency received a distress call about a fire outbreak on Wednesday 5th June, 2024 at about 2:26 am and immediately activated its emergency response plan”.

He added: “Upon the arrival of the agency’s team at the incident scene, it was observed that 10) shops in Alayabiagba market were engulfed by fire. Further information gathered at the incident scene revealed that the fire started from one of the shops immediately public power was restored, the fire subsequently spread to other shops because most of the goods stored are curtains and clothing materials.

“Fortunately no loss of life nor injury was recorded at the incident scene. However, the fire ravaged 10 shops in the market and destroyed several goods stored in the affected shops.

“The fire was completely extinguished by the combined efforts of stakeholders and prevented from spreading to other shops and adjoining buildings”.
