No fewer than 426 operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been deployed for special operation during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Edo state.
This is even as the State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says it would deploy a total of 1,210 officers for the celebration.
The Sector Commander of FRSC, Paul Okpe, while briefing journalists on the Corp’s preparation for Sallah, disclosed that 23 vehicles, including ambulances, would also be deployed.
According to him, “158 officers, 368 marshals” will be deployed. The 23 vehicles deployed include 18 patrol vehicles, three ambulances, one power bike and one tow truck.”
Okpe explained that the Sallah special operation was geared towards ensuring hitch-free movement and achieving a reduction in road traffic crashes during the period of the celebration and beyond.
He said the equipment deployed was to ensure speedy removal of obstructions from the highways and prompt response to road crashes and accident victims.
Meanwhile, the State Command of NSCDC, in a statement on Friday, noted that the deployment of 1,210 officers was to ensure maximum security during the Eid-el-kabir celebration.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Gbenga Agun, in the statement, assured that the security of lives and property of residents of the state before, during and after of the foremost Islamic festivals, remained a priority of the Command.
“I have directed all commanders, heads of tactical units, area commanders, and divisional officers to ensure smooth crime-free and secured celebration before during and after the eid- el -kabir festival.
“Personnel deployed have been tasks with critical responsibility of safeguarding national assets and infrastructure, a core mandate of the Corps protection of lives and property, and crowd control amongst others.
“NSCDC personel will work in collaboration with sister agencies,” the Commandant said.
