The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has said that the nation could be great only in the atmosphere of free, fair and credible elections.

Obi stated this on Saturday, when he led the governorship candidate of the party in the 21 September governorship election in Edo, Olumide Akpata on a courtesy call on the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.

He said he believed that with the prayers of the palace, the party could make a head way as it began its political campaigns ahead of the election.

Obi thanked the revered Monarch’s blessings for his fatherly role and prayers for the unity of the country.

Earlier, the governorship candidate of the party, Olumide Akpata, said he was at the palace with the national leadership of the party to formally informed the Oba of the commencement of his political campaigns and to also seek his blessings.

He noted that it would be very wrong for him to have commenced his campaign without visiting the palace for blessings, adding that he believed that the Oba’s prayers would go a long way in his mission of rescuing the state.

Responding, the Benin Monarch who welcomed the visitors to his palace, also wished them well as they took their political campaigns through the length and breadth of the state.

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate who was earlier received at the party’s secretariat, also embarked on a road show through major streets of the Benin metropolis with a large crowd of party faithful.

He later inaugurated the Olumide Akpata governorship campaign secretariat located in the GRA, Benin.
