This year’s Eid El Kabir will be celebrated without the colorful durbar procession in Kano as police have banned the beautiful cultural display to avoid a breach of the peace in the state. This followed the Emirship tussle in the state where two traditional rulers: Kalifa Muhammad Sanusi 11 and Aminu Ado Bayero are laying claims to the revered Kano traditional throne.

Even as the durbar is banned, our correspondent reports that residents of Kano are in high spirits preparing for the Sallah celebrations even as they are also battling with the high cost of foodstuff, rams, and other items in the market.

Police have urged members of the public to note that, ” Kano state government is in its commitment to recognition of prioritizing public safety and security, above all considerations is hereby emphasizing that all residents respect the an on Durbar activities during the forthcoming Eid-el Kabir.”

This was contained in a statement released by Kano state police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Usaini Gumel.

The Statement reads: “Kano Police Command commends the state government, all traditional institutions for the continuing support, understanding, and cooperation.

“In furtherance, the Kano State Police Command appreciates and thanked the Kano State Government as well as all the law-abiding residents of the State for their support, understanding, and cooperation especially as matters that relates the sensitive issue of safety and security of all inhabitants of the State.
