When the matter appeared at the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday, Kanu, through his lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor told the court that his client was interested in negotiating with the Federal Government.

The embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu is seeking negotiation with the Federal Government of Nigeria to facilitate his release.

Kanu has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for over a year, from where he is being brought to court.

When the matter appeared at the Federal High Court, Abuja on Wednesday, Kanu, through his lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor told the court that his client was interested in negotiating with the Federal Government.

Kanu is seeking negotiation with the government under Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act.

The Act reads, “In any Proceeding In the court, the court may promote reconciliation among parties thereto and encourage and facilitate the amicable settlement thereof.”

The Punch reports that Ejimakor had earlier moved two applications brought before the court. The first application was to move form 49 and an application objecting to the jurisdiction of the court.

He said if the applications were denied, his client would move for the implementation of section 17 of the Federal High Court Act.

But Adegboyega Awomolo, FG’s lawyer told the court that he had to power to negotiate on behalf of his client and that Ejimakor should contact the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for this.

Justice Binta Nyako said her duty as a judge was not to broker negotiation but to hear cases.
