The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has given seven days ultimatum to the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the State to fish out those who raped a fresh graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Miss Adekolure Idowu Glory to death.

Adekolure was reportedly raped to death by yet-to-be-identified persons. The incident occurred at Iyowa Community, along Benin/Akure Road, Benin City, on Thursday, 13 June, 2024.

The 22-year-old girl was said to have been on her way home from processing her clearance at UNIBEN when she was accosted by her assailants who tortured and raped her to death.

Her remains were later deposited close to her mother’s house.

The State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, in a statement on Wednesday evening, expressed shock and sadness over the incident.

He said Obaseki has ordered the State Commissioner of Police to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly and unconscionable act within the next seven days.

The statement reads: “The Edo State Government is shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Adekolure Idowu Glory, a fresh graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) who was allegedly raped and killed by yet-to-be-identified persons in Iyowa Community, within the Benin metropolis.

“It is most disheartening to hear of the sad incident and the State Government condemns, in the strongest terms, the dastardly and unconscionable act.

“The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, expresses his deep-felt condolences to the family of the victim and has ordered the State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Miss Adekolure Idowu Glory and fish out the perpetrators of the heinous and mindless act within the next 7 days.”
