Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, the renowned Nigerian singer, has credited rapper Olamide for inspiring him to transform his upcoming project ‘Stubborn’ into an album.
Victony discussed his interaction with Olamide during a listening party for the project, which is set to be released on June 28.
The ‘Soweto’ hitmaker shared that Olamide, the head of the YBNL label, motivated him to develop ‘Stubborn’ as an album.
Victony recalled Olamide, known as Baddo, advising him on the importance of releasing an album when the fans are eagerly awaiting it.
Originally, ‘Stubborn’ was planned as an extended play (EP). Victony explained, “I felt like I was not album-ready.”
However, a visit to Olamide’s house for guidance led to a great change.
During their conversation, Olamide emphasized the significance of delivering a substantial body of work while fan anticipation was high.
This advice resonated with Victony, who described himself as a project artiste.
He recounted, “Stubborn was supposed to be an EP. I felt like I was not album-ready,” Victony said.
“Before the release of the single ‘Stubborn’, I went to Baddo’s house to seek advice like my big brother.
“The meeting had a different outcome. I went there with my guys, just discussing with Baddo. He told me, ‘Look, you do not want to put out a body of work when your fans are no longer yearning for it.’
“That hit me because I feel like I am a project artiste and that is how people understand me best. I thought about it and I am like, ‘Why not? What is holding me back?’ And then I tweeted a picture with Baddo.
“That very day was the day we decided to make this an album. I had announced Stubborn as my next project but as an EP.”
