Monsor Kazi jailed

An Ilford man Monsor Kazi has been jailed for over 13 years for raping a nine-year-old girl following a Met investigation.

Kazi, 54 of Hickling Road, Ilford, east London was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 14 June to 13 years and six months’ imprisonment after being found guilty of seven counts of rape and assault of an underage girl who was known to him.

According to the police, the father of the victim reported the abuse to the Met on Saturday, 12 February 2022 which local officers immediately responded to as specially trained officers tracked the suspect down, interviewed and arrested him the same day.

Detective Constable Chloe James, who led the investigation based at Romford Police Station, said the police were very grateful to the victim for her courage in speaking about the abuse she faced at the hands of Kazi, and the witnesses who came forward to support this investigation.

James said as a result of working tirelessly with colleagues from the Crown Prosecution Service, to build a case against Kazi, he would now spend years behind bars, saying he would be made to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life on his release.

The police said officers seized various items from a property in Dagenham, such as the victim’s clothing and bedding, which were rapidly analysed by forensics teams, adding that neighbourhood officers meanwhile carried out enquiries and collated statements from the victim and key witnesses.

The police said the court heard that the sexual abuse of the child started in May or June 2021 and lasted for approximately six months.

They said Kazi initially denied the allegations, however the strength of evidence brought to the court by police officers enabled him to be brought to justice.

Kazi was charged on Sunday, 13 February 2022 and convicted at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, 25 October 2022.
