Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of World Trade Organisation, WTO, has again raised alarm about false quotes attributed to her on the social media

In the social media post on Facebook, Okonjo-Iweala, a former Nigeria’s Minister of Finance was quoted as lamenting the increase in Nigeria’s debt stock, under the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, despite the removal of fuel subsidy.

The WTO DG had also been quoted in social media posts some months ago as commending the management of the economy under the Tinubu’s administration, a claim equally denied.

While denying the latest fake quote attributed to her, Okonjo-Iweala lamented that some people in Nigeria are trying to use her name and image on social media to fight battles on different sides of the political divide.

She said they are doing this by putting words she never said in her mouth. But she vowed that she will continue to debunk auch fake news.

“Therefore, I want to alert everyone that the message below is FAKE.

“This is a stern warning to all those trying to misuse my name for their political ends that I will continue to rebut any attempts to use my name and image falsely!,” she said.
