The Lagos State Government on Wednesday decried low rate of compliance in payment of Land Use Charge in the state.

Commissioner for Finance, Abayomi Oluyomi disclosed this in an interview  with newsmen on Wednesday.

He stated that despite enrolling four million households in the scheme, less than 7% of the population has made payments.

Oluyomi also emphasized that the state government is granting a 15% relief to encourage early payment.

The commissioner reassured citizens that they could appeal to the tribunal if they disputed their bill or have complaints.

However, Oluyomi issued a stern warning to those who assaulted field officers, stating that such actions would lead to arrest and charges.

The commissioner appealed to citizens to support the government in developing the state by paying their Land Use Charges, highlighting the crucial role these funds played in infrastructure development.

While the government has the authority to enforce payment through various means, Oluyomi emphasized that government preferred to work collaboratively with citizens to achieve this goal.

“By working together and paying their Land Use Charges, citizens can contribute to the growth and progress of Lagos State,” he added.
