Regional hotel operation: Olukoyede orders arrest of EFCC operatives

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede has ordered the arrest of two officers of the Commission seen assaulting two female staff of Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos during a sting operation at the facility.

This was contained in a statement by Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the anti-graft agency on Thursday

Oyewale noted that the two officers were sighted in a viral video assaulting the staff of the hotel in an early morning sting operation in Lagos.

He however noted that a sizable number of suspects who are still being profiled were arrested during the sting operation at the Lagos hotel

“The EFCC’s boss has also ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out at the hotel and assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable.

“Olukoyede assures the general public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law,” the statement indicated.

A video circulating online had shown EFCC operatives assaulting a lady as they burst into a room during the sting operation at Regional hotels located in Isashi, Ojo, Lagos State.

The assault of the lady was captured on CCTV and the feed has been circulating online.

There were also reports that the EFCC operatives assaulted other staff, guests, (both men and women) and allegedly stole ATM Cards during the raid on the hotel.

The video has resulted in some netizens calling for mass protest against the anti graft agency.

Recall that EFCC operatives were also accused of assaulting ladies during a raid at a hotel in Akure, the Ondo State capital some weeks ago.

The operatives allegedly flogged the ladies they found in the hotel.

Some of the ladies had displayed their bare buttocks with evidence of lacerations to back up their claims.

The operatives were also accused of stealing phones and other items during the raid on the Akure hotel.
