Burna Boy, Tems, Asake, other Nigerian superstars could win a BET Award Monday

Afrobeats superstars continue to fly the Nigerian flag high as five top-class acts are challenging some of America’s biggest names for the coveted BET Awards at the gala night holding on Sunday.

Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Asake, and Seyi Vibes have earned nominations in various categories. Tune in BET (ch 40) at 12am on Monday to catch all the glitz and glamour from the biggest black excellence award!

Following the success of his 7th album, ‘I Told Them,’ the self-acclaimed African giant, Burna Boy could be set to add two more laurels to his ever growing portfolio of awards on Monday morning.

The Grammy Award winner is up against big names such as Chris Brown, Usher, Drake among others for the BEST MALE R&B / POP ARTIST, while he is also hoping to earn BEST MALE HIP HOP ARTIST over the likes of JCole, Kendrick Lamar, Future and Lil Wayne.

In the same vein, another Grammy award winner, Tems is nominated in two categories. She is looking to win VIDEO DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR over Offset, Janelle Monae and Alan Ferguson, Tyler The Creator, among others. Her hit song, Me&U is in the running for the BEST GOSPEL/INSPIRATIONAL AWARD against icons like Kirk Franklin, Cece Winans, Maverick City and Halle Berry.

On the heels of her recent global rise, Mavin’s sensation, Ayra Starr is a nominee for the BEST NEW ARTIST award against Tyla, Sexxy Red, Fridayy, October London, and Dlow. Her jam, Commas, is also up for the BET HER Award, but she will be competing with icons such as Beyonce, Nicki Minaj & Tasha Cobbs, Meghan Thee Stallion, SZA, and Victoria Monet.

Meanwhile, Ayra will also have to contend with her compatriot, Asake for the BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT prize along with other global acts such as Tyla, Focalistic, Aya Nakamura, Tiakola, Raye, Karol Conka, BK, and Cleo Sol. Similarly, street sensation, Seyi Vibez, is up for the VIEWERS’ CHOICE BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT against other acts like Bellah, Cristale, Holly G, Duquesa, Jungheli, Makhadzi, Tyler ICU, and Oruam.

British-Nigerian act, Damson Idris could crown a splendid year in front of the screen with a BET BEST ACTOR prize on Sunday, but he is up against names such as Denzel Washington, Idris Elba, Anthony Mackie, Donald Glover, Lakeith Stanfield, and Colman Domingo.
