Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has tackled former Anambra governor, Peter Obi over his call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB from detention.

Nnamdi Kanu, who is being prosecuted for offences bordering on treasonable felony is being held at a facility of the Department of State Services, DSS in Abuja.

However, Obi, who was the presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 election told journalists in Onitsha on Saturday that the Federal Government should immediately release Nnamdi Kanu from custody.

He said the IPOB leader should be freed based on an existing bail granted him by the court.

However, Omokri said by calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, Obi has exposed himself and his supporters, popularly known as “obidients” as sympathisers of secessionist group IPOB and has therefore put his future presidential ambition in jeopardy.

Omokri said this was because IPOB has been indicted as the mastermind of the unknown gunmen behind killing of security operatives in the South East.

He further claimed that Nnamdi Kanu had also called for has called for kiiling of security operatives in the South East before he was arrested.

In one of the posts on his X handle, Omokri, said, “By calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu today, Peter Obi finally exposed himself and his Obidients and where their allegiance lie.

“Don’t worry, Peter. Nigerians heard you in Ibadan, Kano, Maiduguri, Port Harcourt, Sokoto and Abeokuta.

“You, who have never for once spoken up for the over one hundred officers and men of our military and paramilitary forces killed by unknown gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, are now calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who made public broadcasts calling for his supporters to kill military, police and paramilitary men.

“What did Jeremiah 13:23 say again? Can a leopard change its spots?

In the second post which he illustrated with the Labour Party presidential candidate sitting in front of Hero beer, Omokri said, “The ‘Release Nnamdi Kanu Now’ statement by Peter Obi is the obituary of Peter Obi’s Presidential ambition.

“By calling for the release of a man who made public broadcasts asking his supporters to kill Nigerian military and paramilitary forces wherever they find them and has neither apologised nor repented of that order, Peter Obi just showed his allegiance to the flag behind him in this photo and which he used for his Hero beer logo!.”
