Road accident claims 25 lives in Kano

The Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano, Ibrahim Abdullahi has confirmed the death of 25 commuters traveling from Maiduguri in Borno state to the southern of Nigeria.
Abdullahi also revealed that 53 people sustained various degrees of injury during the tragedy.
The remains of the dead have been deposited in the morgue, while the injured are responding to treatment at the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
Abdullahi made this known through a statement he personally  signed and released to journalists on Monday.
The fatal accident occurred within  the Dangwaro International Market, in the metropolitan axis of Kano City.
An ill-fated  trailer (IVECO) with registration number XA 311 ZB carried the victims, accompanied with cows.
The trailer collided with another vehicle, and somersaulted.
 Abdullahi said : “We received a call at about 03:15 am on July 1, 2024. On receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene of the incident to rescue the victims at 03:30 am.”
He added  that the accident occurred as a result of, “excessive speed, dangerous driving, and overloading, which led to loss of control.
“The doctors on duty confirmed 25 dead out of the victims.”
He further explained that during the rescue operation, items recovered included six motorcycles, 10 mobile phones, animals (goats and rams), maize and the sum of N400,000.
Abdullahi said that all the recovered items were in police custody.
The command, however, warned motorists against unsafe practices of transporting animals, goods, and human beings.
