Police confirm rescue of three from Abuja building collapse

The Federal Capital Territory  Police Command says three persons have been rescued from the four-storey building that collapsed in Abuja on Monday evening.

The Police Public Relations Officer for FCT,  Josephine Adeh, said the building located at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street, collapsed around 8:40 p.m, and the Commissioner of Police, FCT,  Benneth C. Igweh, responded  swiftly after getting a distress call about the incident.

According to her, the CP led a team of officers to the scene. She said the police cordoned off the area and ensured the three victims were rescued.

She said: “The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, promptly moved to the scene with multiple patrol teams as first responders to cordon off the area for possible rescue.

“Three victims were successfully evacuated from the collapsed building and rushed to the hospital for medical care.

“The attention of the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria and FCT Development Control have been drawn to the situation, and their personnel have taken charge of the area for robust management of the scene. Further developments will be appropriately communicated in due course.”
