Floods have taken over residential neighborhoods and major roads in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State following heavy rainfall.

The heavy rain on Wednesday led to widespread flooding in residential areas across Ibeju-Lekki, affecting communities like Epe, Eredo, Bogije, Labora, Abijon, Sangotedo, Awoyaya, and others.

Residents attributed the flooding to blocked waterways caused by indiscriminate waste disposal in their communities.

Rasheed Ayobami, a resident of Labora in Ibeju-Lekki, described how his house was submerged due to the absence of a functional drainage system in his new residential area.

“There is too much water flowing into my compound, the entire house is submerged.

Seyi Arowosaye voiced concerns over the persistent flooding along the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway, urging local authorities to clear drains and residents to refrain from dumping waste into drainage systems to mitigate future floods.

Bola Fadugba, affected in Labora, stressed the need for a long-term solution to the flooding issue, recounting how she and her family often relocate during the rainy season due to water ingress into their home.

In addition to residential areas, major roads like Abraham Adesanya, Awoyaya, Sangotedo, and Majek have also been affected by the floods, compounded by ongoing road rehabilitation works in the area.
