Popular singer Simi has expressed her admiration for men who show their emotions openly, encouraging them to embrace vulnerability rather than conforming to societal expectations of toughness.

Speaking on the 90’s Baby Show, she shared her perspective on the beauty of men allowing themselves to cry, stating how it signifies a sense of safety and authenticity in relationships.

Simi stressed that witnessing men express their emotions brings her joy, contrasting it with the common notion that men must always appear strong and unyielding.

She challenged the stereotype that equates strength with emotional suppression, suggesting instead that true strength lies in the ability to be open and vulnerable.

“For many men, there’s this pressure to be the strong one for their families,” Simi reflected. “While that can be admirable, I believe true strength includes being able to show your emotions and be authentic. When men cry, it’s a sign that they feel secure enough to be themselves and to release their inner struggles.”

She further stated on the harmful consequences of bottling up emotions, noting,

“I find it beautiful when men cry because I’m surrounded by many men who feel they have to be macho or strong all the time.

“When you see men and women going through the same pain, the man often says, ‘I have to be strong for my wife or kids.’ I think that’s okay, but I don’t think strength means not being vulnerable or crying.

“I like it when men cry because it means that you feel safe with who you are with, you can be vulnerable, and you can let go. I have seen African men act like they are the warrior, protector, and provider. But if it’s not coming out in your tears, it’s going inside your heart, and one day you are just going to explode.”
