Quick Read

The NCDC's recent data shows 2,102 suspected cholera cases and 63 deaths across 33 states and 122 local government areas. Cholera, a food and water-borne disease, is caused by the ingestion of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae found in contaminated water and food.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced on Friday that the country should expect a downward trend in cholera cases.

This statement was made by Dr. Jide Idris, the Director-General of the NCDC, during an event in Lagos that unveiled the Integrated Disease Testing and Surveillance Laboratory.

Dr. Idris noted that while more cases are being detected in various states, the fatalities have decreased due to heightened awareness about the outbreak. “We are recording lower fatalities because of the ongoing awareness about the disease,” he stated. “Over time, with increased awareness at the federal, state, and local government levels, we expect a downward trend in cases over the next couple of weeks.”
