Police secure convictions of 106 Kano thugs in three weeks

The Kano State Police Command under Salman Dogo Garba who became the Commissioner of Police for the state three weeks ago, has secured the conviction of 106 thugs and street urchins within the period.

They were arraigned in various courts at Justice Aloma M. Mukhtar and Justice A. B Wall Courts complexes, where they were convicted.

No fewer than 43 other suspects linked with offences of culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, causing grievous hurt are currently remanded as their trials are ongoing.

Our Correspondent recalls that on July 4, 2024, a total of 149 suspects were paraded at the Kano state police headquarters in Bompai, for offences of culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery and thuggery related crimes, following a clearance operation led by CP Dogo, conducted between June 24 and July 4, 2024, 10 days of the assumption of duty of CP Dogo.

The new Kano boss said, “in a follow-up by the Command, a total of 106 suspects were successfully convicted for thuggery-related crimes with no option of fine, 43 other suspects who were linked with capital offences of culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery and causing grievous hurt were remanded with their trials ongoing.”

He said the Kano Police Command will continue to remain resolute and steadfast towards fighting all forms of criminal activities and bringing the perpetrators to book.

“Moving forward, members of the public are urged to keep cooperating with the Command on this noble course to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the State,” he added.

Dogo appreciated the judiciary as a critical part of the criminal justice system for their contributions to achieving this feat, pointing out that, “their contribution is highly commendable and will also go a long way in curtailing criminal activities to the barest minimum in the State.”

He Dogo also appreciated the “law-abiding people of Kano State” for their commitment towards e ding thuggery activities in Kano.

He especially thanked the people of Dala, Ja’en and Dorayi Quarters for their commitment and contributions towards ending thuggery (Daba) activities that bedevilled some parts of Dala, Gwale, Kano Municipal and Kumbotso Local Government Areas within Kano metropolis.

In a gesture of appreciation, a Community from Ja’en Quarters named “Sabuwar Madina Community Development Association” presented a Commendation Letter to the Commissioner of Police for his effort in fighting thuggery (Daba) activities and restoring peace and security in the affected areas and the state, and at large.

The letter read in part: “The above-named Association wishes to heartily commend your effort aimed at ensuring lasting security in every nook and corner of Kano State.

” However, specifically to mention was your on spot visit to our community (Ja’en) a few days on assumption of duty, coupled with your initiatives and commitment to clamp down on all criminal activities inclusive of Yan Daba menace.

“This giant move sent shockers, panic and warning signal to various classes of criminals within and outside the area. It was tagged “No more hiding place for criminals in Kano going forward.”

” The Association is proud to be associated with your sterling achievements as a dynamic leader and reassured to put our hands together with the Police in order to sustain lasting peace and ensure a secured environment.

“Finally, we wish you Allah’s guidance, support, and protection in your new office.”
