The Police at the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police, Lagos have arrested a suspected fake educational consultant to Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Sadiku Rasaki, 47, and dragged him before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N600,000 from one James Oyeleke by false pretence.
Police alleged that the defendant introduced himself to the complainant that he was an educational consultant to Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State and collected the money from the complainant with pretext of using the money to facilitate the release of his certificate from the School, a claim the Police said the defendant knew to be false.
Police further alleged that after the defendant collected the money from the complainant, he failed to provide the certificate for the complainant and instead fled.
Police said that following the development, the complainant petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Durosimi Olatoye who swiftly gave a marching order to his crack team to fish him out.
Police arrested the defendant at a hideout in Lagos.
After an investigation by Paul Michael and team, the defendant was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Ebute-Metta Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge bordering on impersonation and stealing.
Police prosecuting Counsel, ASP Francis Igbinosa informed the court in the charge marked H/26/2024 that the defendant committed the offence in September 2023 in Lagos.
Igbinosa told the Court that the defendant deceived the complainant that he was a consultant to Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State and collected the sum of N600,000 from him to facilitate the release of his School certificate, a claim he knew to be false and escaped before he was arrested.
He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under sections 314, 287 and 383 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Mrs Erinle granted him bail and adjourned the case.
