Veeesax

Victor Ajayi better known in the gospel industry as Veeesax is a United Kingdom based Saxophonist, musician and a reputable minister of God. After months of break from releasing music, he makes a dazzling return with the release of “Heart of Worship,” a three part extended play.

In this short interview, he leads us through the inspiration behind the title, future plans and how he has been able to juggle two professions.

This is your first release in more than eight months, what has kept you away from music for this long?

I have never been away from music. All my weekend is pretty much about music, even during the week, I still go for gigs, I think this is just about music. And you know music takes time, you don’t want to rush it. That’s why there was like a break between the last and this release. Also, I have been trying to get the team to deliver the job. When it comes to music, it is not a one man show, you need to have the right team that connects with your vision for the project , so that you can deliver it. It is just like working on a movie, you can’t just pick random people, you have to pick people who can actually bring to light what you have envisioned…, to think of it as a mix of so many things. So being away from music, not at all. Music is part of me.

Why did you titled this EP “Heart of Worship”?

So, am a Christian to start with, everything I do is driven by the scripture. This release is borne out of the book of revelation chapter four verse eleven, which says, thou art worthy oh Lord to receive glory , honour and power, for thou had created all things and for the pleasure, they are, and were created. As believers, the essence of our lives is to worship God, whether in our career life or family life, it is the hallmark of our existence . That’s why God created us, to give HIM Pleasure. The purpose of this release is to stir the heart of worship in everyone, connecting us to Yahweh”, he said.

It’s a fourty minute long EP cut into three songs, how was it like working on this EP?

Yeah, it is tasking. I have been leveraging my network, people around me that share the same kind of vision. They brought it to light. And some of them are people that I have worked with in the last couple of years and by divine arrangement , we found ourselves in the same environment. They bought into the vision and here we are.. they are all busy professionals, it is a blessing working with them.

Take us through the creative process for this EP, when did the planning start?

It took a couple of months. The idea came in December 2023, I needed to have a live session where I brought together musicians, vocalists, instrumentalists, I also had a lot of people who were around who motivated me. Finally, we were able to get into a studio environment in April 2024. And the post production and all that . So, in total, it took us close to six months.

Why did you not feature anyone on this EP?

You are right, I have not personally featured anyone however I have been featured on several occasions, for instance I was featured by minister Fola Amoo last year. It’s a journey, going forward there will be collaborations with other singers and musicians. We still have a lot of work to do.

We are in the second half of the year, what are your other plans before the year ends?

There will still be an album. I am working on that. No plan for a concert this year.

You are a cyber security expert and a musician, how do you juggle the two?

They are two interesting professions, both of them are two things I am passionate about. When I tell people about my profession, I tell them my 9 to 5 is cyber security, while my 5-9 is music, which means, I kind of divide my day between music and cyber security.

In fact , music takes a large chunk of it because most of my weekend, music takes it. Both professions compliment each other, being a musician makes you quite creative and spontaneous and that’s a skill required in cyber security, also because you are expected to create custom solutions to issues, you have to be dynamic, creative. Both professions compliment each other. Personally, I have mastered the act of managing both and leveraging them.
