Former Kano lawmakers hail Tinubu over Dan Agundi’s appointment as NPC boss

The leadership and members of the 8th Kano State House of Assembly have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Hon. Baffa Babba Dan’Agundi as the Director-General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC).
Dan’Agundi was the Majority Leader of the 8th Kano state House of Assembly.
The former Kano lawmakers described his appointment as well-deserved, assuring that Dan’Agundi would bring his wealth of experience to bear in moving NPC forward.
This was contained in a Statement issued by Hon. Kabiru Alhasan Rurum, who was the Speaker of the state’s 8th Assembly, but now a member of the House of Representatives.
According to Rurum, the former Kano lawmakers, “also observed that the appointment was a testimony of the government’s hope in the nation’s youths as stakeholders in the efforts to move the country forward.”
The Statement further stated that, “Nigeria of today needs youths in the likes of DanAgundi to bring new ideas that would develop the nation.”
The former Kano lawmakers maintained that, “Dan’Agundi is a reliable and trusted leader who always brought new ideas to the Legislative Chamber when he was the Majority Leader of the Assembly.
“His recent appointment as the Director-General, National Productivity Centre by the President and Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu proves the fact that a round peg is put in a round hole.”
They expressed optimism, “in Dan’Agundi’s resilience, hard work, vision and mission to deliver excellently in whatever he does. We pray that God will continue to guide your life so that the Labour sector will record positive traits during your tenure, to make us proud.
“We fondly call you the Red Cock (Jan Zakara) known for defying all odds to succeed.Please continue to make us proud.”
Our Correspondent reports that the announcement of Dan’Agundi’s appointment a week ago triggered jubilation in Kano.
Dan’Agundi’s appointment was confirmed through a statement signed by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity.
According to the Statement, President Tinubu expects the new NPC Director-General to display utmost dedication and patriotic zeal in driving the Centre’s mandate of developing a national culture of excellence in operational efficiency and institutionalizing a performance-driven orientation towards measurable productivity.
Baffa was born in Kofar Dan’Agundi quarters of Kano Municipal in the year 1973.
He is from the family of late Babba Danagundi, one of the Kingmakers of Kano Emirate Council with the traditional title Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta and great grandson to Jamo of the Sullubawa Fulani Clan.
Baffa attended Gidan Makama Special Primary School between 1981 and 1986. He also attended Government Technical College, Wudil, between 1986 and 1989, and Unity College, Karaye between 1989 and 1992.
Baffa obtained his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma from Kano State Polytechnic. He Obtained MBA from Bayero University Kano (BUK).
He started his career as an Assistant Clerical Officer up to Principal Registrar in Kano State High Court of Justice where he voluntary resigned and joined politics.
Baffa Was the Acting Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government Area, during the tenure of former Governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau in 2007.
He was also Senior Special Assistant to former Governor of Kano State, Engr. Rabi’u Kwankwaso between 2012 and 2014.
Baffa was elected Member of Kano State House of Assembly on the platform of the APC in 2015.
He was elected the Majority Leader of the 8th Kano House of Assembly in 2018, after the impeachment of the former speaker of the House, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata and the Majority Leader, Muhammad Bello Butu But.
Baffa chaired so many committees in the House of Assembly which include the investigation committee on the controversial Video Clip showing a Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje allegedly receiving $5 million bribe in October 2018 which was published by Jaafar Jaafar on his online publication company, Daily Nigerian.
Baffa was also the Vice Chairman of Committee set up to investigate former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi 11 on eight-count charges of allegation of defamation of character, breach of oath of office/oath of allegiance, abuse of office privileges and protocol and political and religious interference.
Baffa was appointed the Managing Director of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, where he set the pace in Kano’s traffic management.
Popularly known as Baffanyo, the new NPC Managing Director also served as Managing Director of Kano Consumer Protection Council.
During the 2023 electioneering campaign, Baffa was the North-West Director/Coordinator of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG).
