Police Sergeant shoots father to death in Maiduguri

A drunk police sergeant identified as Linus Wadzani has shot his father, Wadzani Natsiri, who was a retired police officer to death in the Tudu area of Maiduguri, Borno State.

Linus who is a Mobile Police officer with Mopol 6, Maiduguri, but currently serving as a security detail at the Borno State House of Assembly reportedly shot his father who retired as police APC multiple times to kill him.

Kenneth Daso, the spokesperson for the Borno Police Command confirmed the tragic incident to journalists in Maiduguri on Monday

According to him, Natsiri who also served at the Borno State Command was killed by his son on Sunday.

He said this was after Sergeant Linus got home at about 4:30 pm on Sunday and had a heated argument with the father.

He subsequently shoot at his father multiple times with his AK-47 rifle, resulting in his instant death.

Daso said a family member told police officers at the compound of the deceased Linus and his father were the only one at home when the incident happened, so no one can really explained what transpired before the shooting.

But the a police patrol team calmed the situation when they received a distress call.

Daso added that Sergeant Linus confessed to that he was under the influence of alcohol and other hard substances when he committed the crime.

The Police spokesperson however said a forensic team from the command has been assembled and blood samples of the sergeant collected to determine the mental status of Linus.

He also said investigation has begun into the homicide
