A notorious drug peddler, Abubakar Muazu, who stabbed an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during operation has been sentenced to three years in prison for dealing in assorted illicit drugs.
Abubakar Muazu was sentenced by Hon. Justice MN Yunusa of the Federal High Court-2, sitting in Kano.
The Kano NDLEA Command also secured the conviction of 21 others for various drug-related offenses.
The state Commander, CN Abubakar Idris AHMAD who revealed this on Thursday, issued a stern warning to drug offenders in Kano.
He described the convictions as a major victory in NDLEA’s battle against illicit drug trafficking and abuse in Kano state.
According to him, Abubakar Muazu’s arrest was, “marked by a dangerous altercation that saw an NDLEA officer being stabbed by Muazu himself.
“The officers held their ground and apprehended Muazu despite the obstinacy of Muazu and his group, which resulted in the discovery and recovery of various illicit substances hidden by the perpetrator.”
He added that: “This verdict not only serves as justice for the crimes committed but also sends a strong message to others who seek to obstruct the NDLEA in carrying out its important mandate.
“The Command will keep pursuing and prosecuting those involved in drug trafficking and related offenses as part of its ongoing commitment to upholding the Rule of Law.”
While appreciating the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, for his unwavering support and commitment to the cause of fighting drug abuse and trafficking, Ahmad said: “No amount of intimidation or violence will deter the agency’s operatives from pursuing and bringing perpetrators to justice.
“Our operatives are trained professionals who will stop at nothing to ensure that those who engage in drug-related offenses face the full weight of the law,” said CN AI Ahmad.
“The command urges anyone with information about drug-related activities to come forward and assist the agency in its efforts to create a safer, healthier Kano State.”
