…Factional Speaker disrupts medical outreach in his community.
By Okafor Ofiebor/Port Harcourt
For the second time in two days, the Caretaker Committee, CTC, Chairman of Obio-Akpor local government area of Rivers, Chijioke Ihunwo has accused Police operatives in the state of making themselves available as tools in hands of Martin Amaewhule, the factional Speaker loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.
Ihunwo stated this during an interview on a radio station, Nigeria Info 92.3 Port Harcourt.
However, the Obio-Akpor boss noted under the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara the youths of Rivers State are no longer the leaders of tomorrow but leaders of today.
This was contained in a press statement issued by Amadi Eze, his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity.
Ihunwo emphasized that under the immediate past administration of Nyesom Wike, there was no future for the youths, but under the current administration the future is now in their hands.
“Let me advise our youths, I’m a youth leader at the State despite being a Caretaker Chairman, the future is now for Rivers youths, Governor Fubara has brought the future to us. In Wike’s eight years there was no future for Rivers youths which everybody is aware. But I covered him because he is an Ikwerre man and my brother. Governor Fubara has brought the future to us, we are holding it in our hands.”
He cautioned Rivers youths to know that the Abuja based politicians they are fighting for that their children are in UK and Abuja, leaving them here to suffer for their children to benefit.
“Where are the children of these people that are using you against Fubara, they are in UK and Abuja studying, and you are here writing on social media for people to be clapping for you. It is high time our youths realise that this is the time for them. We have our destiny in our hands now. Ninety percent of the caretaker members are young people.”
Narrating the incident that transpired on Wednesday at Eliozu during his medical outreach, the CTC Chairman said the Police disrupted the programme carried out by Rivers State Government in Oro-Igwe to serve the interest of one man.
“Yesterday the Rivers State Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Primary Healthcare Management Board had a health programme in Oro-Igwe community in Obio-Akpor local government area, and we were the host, when the programme started we brought canopies and chairs for the programme to start.”
“The former Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule called the DPO of Okporo police station to come there and stop the programme. And I told the DPO that this is a Rivers State government health programme, the Commissioner will soon be here, Executive Secretary of Primary Healthcare Management Board will soon be here, our mothers and children were there. But the Area Commander of Mini-Okoro Police station asked everybody to leave the venue because the health centre is close to the house of the father of the former Speaker, Martin Amaewhule.”, Ihunwo alleged.
The Obio-Akpor CTC Chairman informed that after some minutes a senior Police officer led a different officers to shoot tear gas at pregnant women and children that came for medical care.
“After ten minutes, CSP Masalachi came there with different officers, started molesting and shooting tear gas at pregnant women and children in the name of politics.”
He stated that the intention of Martin Amaewhule was for there to be crisis that will lead to bloodshed which he avoided, and the Police P.R.O gave a different story by stating that there was a fight.
He said the coming local government election will hold but the sincerity of the Police is his concern.
He called for vigilance on the part of Rivers people and the Ijaw nation, saying they should rise up and protect their brother.
But he said the Ikwerre people are giving Fubara one hundred percent, and he will be governor for eight years, he said.
