Governor Alex Otti of Abia has explained his decision to operate from his home in Nvosi Umuehim, citing the lack of a suitable Government House in the state.
He made this statement on Saturday during the inauguration of the new office for the Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area (LGA).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), previous administrations in Abia have operated from rented office spaces, many of which are now in disrepair.
While past governors Sen. Theodore Orji and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu initiated the construction of a Government House at Ogurube Layout, Otti criticized the incomplete structure as inadequate and unworthy of the state.
Otti committed to constructing a “befitting Government House” by the end of the year, pledging to replace the current dilapidated buildings with a more suitable facility for the state’s educated populace.
He also addressed his decision to appoint non-politician Mayors as Transition Committee (TC) Chairmen for the Local Government Councils.

Despite initial criticism, he defended his choice, expressing satisfaction with the performance of these appointees, including millionaires and foreign-based professionals.
Otti thanked Chief Joe Aru, the TC Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government, for his support since 2014 and for sharing his vision for a new Abia.
In his speech, Aru highlighted that the inauguration of the LGA Secretariat symbolizes the community’s dedication to progress and development.
He assured that the new Arochukwu LGA Headquarters would be central to local government operations and community engagement.
Aru also expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged to address key issues facing the LGA.
