The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 21 September governorship election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo has taken a swipe at the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Asue Ighodalo, alleging that the latter isolated himself from his people until recently when he indicated interest to contest election.

Okpebholo stated this Monday evening during a chat with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of Edo NUJ.

According to him, the PDP candidate whom he referred to as Obaseki’s godson has been relatively unknown in his own community.

He said: “I never knew Obaseki’s godson, Asue, who claimed to have come from my Senatorial District [Edo Central].

“I only got to know of him when someone drew my attention that a chairman of bank donated N100,000 to Esan security architecture.

“I raised the bar of the donations and even donated vehicles for the local vigilantes when I discovered that what was donated was not enough. So, find out where these people have been, he added.

Okpebholo also appealed to organizers of the planned nationwide hunger protest to shelve it.

He noted that President Bola Tinubu has spent only one year in office, and so, they should give him some time to fix the economy for the overall benefits of all.

He, however, stated that any protest in the state could aid the exit of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government, noting that Governor Godwin Obaseki has not provided good governance in the past seven years.

The Senator who urged Edo residents to vote for him at the poll, pledged to prioritize education, healthcare, security infrastructures in his first 100 days if he emerged victorious.
