Ojota witnessed a peaceful protest as a large number of Nigerians took to the streets to advocate for an end to bad governance.

The usually bustling areas were notably quiet, with many shops and business outlets, including the popular Ojota Bus Terminal, remaining closed.

PM News reported large crowds at the protest sites, with flags and placards held high amidst heavy security presence at the Gani Fawehinmi Park.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, praised the protesters for their peaceful conduct.

Speaking with reporters at the Ojota protest venue, CP Fayoade expressed his satisfaction with the orderly nature of the protests.

“The protest has been going on peacefully in most places visited around the metropolis, as people have been conducting themselves well,” CP Fayoade said.

He emphasized the need for continued orderliness, assuring that security agencies were present to safeguard everyone’s interests.

Despite the heavy turnout, the atmosphere remained calm and peaceful.

The protest saw the participation of notable figures, including Shehu Atiku Abubakar, the son of a former vice president, who joined the mammoth crowd in Ojota.

Renowned human rights lawyer and activist Inibehe Effiong also addressed the protesters, urging Nigerians to rise above tribal, religious, and other divisive sentiments to demand better governance.

He reassured them of free legal representation for any arrested and prosecuted protesters, declaring that “History will vindicate the just.”

Segun Olatunbosun, a civil servant, expressed the grievances of the protesters, saying,

“Though the protest here is a peaceful one, we urge the government to please listen to our requests as we cannot continue living like this.”

Echoing this plea, another protester declared, “We won’t stop until our requests are worked upon. We cannot continue like this.”
