Gabrielle Thomas of the United States of America (USA) has won the gold medal in the Women’s 200m final at the ongoing Olympics in Paris, France.

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili placed sixth in the race and failed to win the country’s first medal at the Paris Olympics.

Thomas reached the finishing line in a time of 21.83 seconds to win gold, while Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia won the silver medal after coming second in a time of 22.08 seconds.

Alfred had few days ago won the gold medal in the Women’s 100m race and she now added a silver to her Olympics collection.

Brittany Brown of the USA won the bronze medal after coming third in the race in a time of 22.20 seconds.

Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain came fourth in a time of 22.22 seconds, just as Daryll Neita of Great Britain came fifth in a time of 22.23 seconds, followed by Ofili of Nigeria in sixth position in a time of 22.24 seconds.

McKenzie Long of the USA was seventh in a time of 22.42 seconds while Jessica Gbai of Cote d’ Ivoire came last in a time of 22.70 seconds.

The winner of the race, Thomas, 27 had won the bronze medal in the 200m and a silver as part of the women’s 4 × 100 m relay at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

On August 25, 2023, she claimed the 200m silver medal in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest with a time of 21.81 seconds.

Thomas would also go on to win gold as part of Team USA in the women’s 4x100m relay final with a championship record of 41.03 seconds.
