Man. City edge Man. United on penalties to win Community Shield

Manchester City defeated Manchester United 7-6 on penalties to win the FA Community Shield on Saturday.

The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes which necessitated a straight penalty shootouts to determine the winner of this season’s Community Shield.

It was 4-4 after the first round of penalties and City converted three more with United scoring two to give the Premier League champions the victory and their first trophy of the new season.

Earlier in the first half, Oscar Bobb  got himself out of a tight corner inside the box then shot. The keeper leapt for the ball but it flew just over the bar.

In the 24th minute, James McAtee drifted into the box to give his teammate support. He received a fantastic pass and shot from close range, but it crashed against the left post.

In the 44th minute, Jeremy Doku received a brilliant pass and wasted a big opportunity as his shot from inside the penalty area flew narrowly wide off the left post.

In the 75th minute, Marcus Rashford picked up an accurate pass inside the box and unleashed a shot goalwards that smashed against the left post.

United took the lead eight minutes to the end of the match. Alejandro Garnacho changed the scoreline after getting on the end of a brilliant pass and firing a precise shot that went inside the right post.

City equalised one minute to the end of the match through substitute Bernardo Silva. Oscar Bobb produced a brilliant lofted pass and Bernardo Silva got on the end of it to finish with a header into an empty net.
