The Rivers Police Command has confirmed the attack carried out by suspected arsonists on the secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with explosives suspected to be dynamites.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, who confirmed the incident said the anti-bomb squad and other plainclothes and uniformed Policemen had been deployed to secure the area.
The National Chairman of the Action People’s Party Uchenna Nnadi condemned the attack.
Nnadi spoke to newsmen after inspecting the level of damage at the party Secretariat in company with the State Chairman of the party, Sunny Nwokekoro and Disu.
He further described the development as an act against democracy and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies to ensure that those behind the act were fished out and punished.
He claimed that those behind the attack were afraid of the APP in the forthcoming local government election.
On his part, the chairman of the APP in the state, Sunny Nwokekoro said the party is not deterred by the threats.
He added that the party in the state had received many PDP members and ready for the forth coming local government election.
