A tragic accident on Tuesday at Malo in the Ogere area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of 12 people, with four others suffering injuries.

The incident involved a Mazda bus with registration number DDA 733 XA and occurred around 3:14 p.m., according to a statement from Mrs. Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun.

Okpe reported that the bus crashed after the driver lost control while attempting an unsafe overtaking maneuver, colliding with a road divider.

The vehicle then overturned and burst into flames.

Among the 16 people involved in the accident were 12 men, three women, and one young girl.

“16 people were involved in the accident, comprising 12 men, three women and one female child.

“Four men were injured, while others were burnt to death,” she said.

The four men who survived the crash were taken to Patmag Hospital in Ogere for treatment.

Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a swift recovery.

He urged all motorists to adhere to traffic laws, maintain proper speed, and ensure clear road conditions before overtaking.
