Nigerian singer Ololade Ahmed, popularly known as Asake, has made history as the first African musician to top the global Spotify debut chart.
He acclaimed the feat after his recently released third studio album ‘Lungu Boy’ peaked at number one on the chart.
The ‘Wave’ crooner announced the 15-track album in the early hours of Friday.
The project features a star-studded lineup of international collaborators, including Nigerian superstar Wizkid, American hip-hop giants Travis Scott, British rappers Stormzy and Central Cee, and Brazilian singer
The songs in the album include ‘MMS’, ‘Mood’, ‘My Heart’, ‘Worldwide’, ‘Active’, ‘Suru’, ‘Skating’, ‘Wave’, and ‘Mentally’. Other tracks are ‘Uhh Yeah’, ‘I Swear’, ‘Ligali’, and ‘Whine’. The singer also added a bonus track titled ‘Fuji Vibe’.
‘Lungu Boy’ broke the record for the biggest first-day streams for an African album on Spotify.
The album garnered 9.42 million streams on the Global Spotify Chart on its first day.

The Grammy-nominated hitmaker rose to prominence in 2020 with his hit song ‘Lady’. The singer joined YBNL, the record label owned by Olamide, in February 2022.
He has released two studio albums, ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’ (2022) and ‘Work of Art’ (2023). He has also earned a plethora of awards and nominations for his craft.
Asake was nominated in the Best African Music Performance’ category at the 2024 Grammys for ‘Amapiano’, his hit song with Olamide, the rapper.
Asake who is signed to YBNL Nation and Empire Distribution has already started the Lungu Boy tour promotion while he was performing at other places.
In 2022, Asake released his first album Mr Money With The Vibe, and in the year 2023, Asake gained global recognition following the release of his second studio album dubbed Work of Art.
In the same years, Asake made headlines as he shutdown the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in London, where he dished out magnetic stage performance, causing uncontrolled excitement among his fans.
