Blessing Agbaza inducted as Dignitary Fellow of the International Health and Science Society

Nigerian-born researcher and public health expert, Dr. Blessing Agbaza, has been inducted as a Dignitary Fellow of the Society for Innovation in Health and Scientific Development (SIHSD), in a ceremony held on August 12, 2024.

The induction, which recognises individuals of exceptional standing in science, health, and related disciplines, places Dr. Agbaza among a select group of distinguished professionals who have demonstrated significant and lasting contributions to their fields.

Dr. Agbaza, who has spent over a decade advancing research in epidemiology and health systems strengthening across sub-Saharan Africa, was nominated by senior fellows of the Society in recognition of two landmark contributions, her pioneering work on community-based disease surveillance frameworks adopted across several West African nations, and her development of a low-cost diagnostic protocol now in use at primary healthcare facilities in Nigeria and Ghana.

Speaking after the ceremony, Dr. Agbaza dedicated the honour to her mentors and colleagues. “This is not mine alone. It belongs to every community health worker who believes that science could reach the last mile,” she said.

The SIHSD Fellowship Evaluation Committee, in conferring the award, noted that Dr. Agbaza’s work had not only advanced knowledge in her field but had produced a measurable impact on the ground, a standard the Society holds as central to its mission.

Dr. Blessing Agbaza joins a growing but deliberately small cohort of Dignitary Fellows whose work continues to shape the future of health and scientific development across the continent and beyond.
