Kylian Mbappe opened his goal account for Real Madrid on Wednesday as the European champions defeated Atalanta 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup.
Mbappe scored Madrid’s second goal in the 68th minute of the match.
It was a superb work from Jude Bellingham, who played a vital role in the build-up. He squared the ball to Mbappe, who beat Juan Musso with a brilliant shot into the top right corner.
Earlier in the 25th minute, Marten de Roon had a shot from inside the box which was deflected and crashed against the crossbar.
Two minutes later, Ederson decided to unleash a long-range shot. Despite hitting it very well, it scorched inches wide off the right post.
A minute into first half added time, Rodrygo picked up a pass inside the box and unleashed a shot goalwards that crashed against the bar.
After the restarted, Thibaut Courtois made a superb save to deny a header which was nodded towards the right-hand post by Mario Pasalic after a cross from the side.
Madrid opened the scoring in the 59th minute. Federico Valverde fired home from very close range after latching on to a pass from Vinicius Junior.
Two minutes later, Vinicius Junior ran onto the ball inside the box and smashed the ball towards the roof of the net. It was a great effort but an even better save from Juan Musso, who tipped the ball over the bar.
In the 66th minute, Jude Bellingham had a great chance inside the six-yard box, shot to the bottom left corner, but Juan Musso pulled off an exquisite save to deny him.
