Afrobeats artiste Omah Lay has shared the huge hurdles he faces in the music industry.

In a recent interview with Amazon Music, the ‘Boy Alone’ singer revealed feeling unloved, particularly by the media and industry gatekeepers.

Omah Lay admitted that he often retreats into a fantasy world to cope with what he describes as a ‘sad reality.’

Despite having support from his fans, family, and team, he feels a lack of genuine love from those who influence the industry.

“This is something I’ve never talked about before,” he shared.

“I’m that artiste who spends 90 percent of the time living in my own head.”

He also discussed the difficulties of traveling with a Nigerian passport.

Omah Lay noted that he frequently encounters mistreatment from immigration officers, which only improves once they recognize him as a well-known artiste.

“Travelling especially being a Nigerian and having the Nigerian passport, I have just seen the cruelty of the world so much.

“The immigration officers often maltreat me once they see the Nigerian passport until they realise that I’m Omah Lay that’s when the treatment changes.”
