The PDP has been in crises since the conclusion of the primary election for selection of its candidate for February 25, 2023 election.

Some members of the party, including governors had refused to support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who emerged the party’s candidate during the 2023 election.

Prominent among the PDP members who refused to back Atiku was former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Wike also led a group of governors and other members of the party opposed to the bid of the former Vice President for the presidential seat.
Wike and his group supported Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, who went on to win the election.

The former Rivers State Governor was consequently appointed as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory by the Tinubu.

Wike has insisted that he is still a member of PDP despite accepting appointment from the APC government.

But there have been calls by some stakeholders in the party for his expulsion and that of other members who were disloyal to the party during the 2023 election.

However, the question is ‘will the disciplinary committee be able to wield the big stick against Wike and others?’
