Three persons have reportedly tested positive to Monkeypox in Edo State.

The Director of Public Health in the State Ministry of Health, Dr Stephenson Ojeifo, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the cases were detected in the past 72 hours in the state.

This is even as he disclosed that the patients have been isolated are currently receiving care at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Irrua and Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi respectively.

Ojeifo assured that the State, in collaboration with other stakeholders, would continue to provide the public with additional necessary informative and educational materials on the disease.

He, however, urged all residents in the state to maintain strict Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures at all times.

According to him, the IPC measures include regular hand hygiene by washing hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based sanitizer, disinfecting surfaces and objects, managing waste properly, and practicing respiratory hygiene by covering while coughing and sneezing and using masks in crowded areas.

He advised that any suspected cases of Monkeypox should be reported to state officials of the ministry.
