A fully loaded 18-seater white Mazda bus without a number plate on Tuesday at about 3.30 PM crashed on two young commuters at Obalende under the bridge.
The victims who were seen lying on the ground writhing in pain sustained injuries all over their bodies with broken legs.
Though the cause of the accident could not be ascertained as of the time of filling this report, eyewitnesses informed PM NEWS that the driver of the bus had a brake failure while descending the Obalende bridge from the CMS axis.
They said though the victims were still alive, could not talk.
The yet-to-be-identified driver of the bus ran away from the scene immediately after the accident.
An eyewitness who identified himself simply as Oke, a trader said, “l believe the bus had a brake failure while descending the Obalende bridge to connect the roundabout and crashed on the two young men who crossed the road opposite the BRT park exit gate, but the driver is not supposed to escape but wait to help the victims to the hospital for treatment since they did not die instantly from the accident. Sympathizers are afraid to take the victims to the hospital due to the Police report one must obtain and submit at the hospital.”
Efforts to take the picture of the victims and the partially damaged vehicle were thwarted by an irate mob at the scene who attempted to snatch the phone from this reporter for daring to attempt to take the picture of the victims and the bus.
Concerned Sympathizers were however seen arranging how they would be able to take the victims to the hospital as of the time PM NEWS left the scene.
