Japan, ECOWAS strengthen ties ahead of 2025 TICAD meeting

In a statement issued by Ms. Shimada Mami, Third Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, it was revealed that both parties have pledged to intensify their collaborative efforts towards improving connectivity within West Africa.
The Japanese Government and the Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS) have announced a strengthened commitment to deepening bilateral relations in anticipation of the 2025 Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial meeting.
The agreement was formalized following a high-level meeting between Mr. Tsuji Kiyoto, Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice President of ECOWAS, who had visited Japan for TICAD-related engagements.
In a statement issued by Ms. Shimada Mami, Third Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, it was revealed that both parties have pledged to intensify their collaborative efforts towards improving connectivity within West Africa.
They have also committed to working together to bolster peace, stability, and economic cooperation across the region.
Minister Kiyoto expressed gratitude towards ECOWAS for its proactive role in fostering economic integration within West Africa, acknowledging the organization’s leadership in regional development.
In turn, Vice President Tchintchibidja extended her appreciation for Japan’s ongoing support and contributions to ECOWAS initiatives.
She reaffirmed ECOWAS’s commitment to pursuing economic integration, as well as promoting peace and stability within the sub-region.
