Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has reacted to the passing away of the Coach of Heartland FC, Christian Obi.
Heartland’s Media Officer, Olatunde Liadi had earlier on Saturday confirmed the death of the gaffer in a ghastly accident involving one of the team’s buses on their way to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, for a pre-season tournament on Friday.
Taking to his X page, Peter Obi wrote: “Reports indicate that the accident occurred when the team’s Coaster bus collided with a stationary truck while trying to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. My condolences go to the family of the Coach, Heartland FC, Imo State Government and Nigeria football family. The injured, I pray to God for quick recovery. I pray God to grant the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss”.
The Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau had also in a statement mourned Obi who was a former Nigerian U-20 goalkeeper.
He said, “We are still stunned and saddened by the report. Our hearts go out to the immediate family of coach Christian Obi, his friends and relations, the Imo State Football Association and the Imo State Government, owners of Heartland Football Club.”
