Kano Governor Yusuf shuts all MDA bank accounts

Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday, ordered the immediate closure of all bank accounts linked to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDA) in the state.

He cited growing lack of transparency as major reason for his action.

Yusuf also vowed to jack up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) drive in the state.

Yusuf, who spoke at Government House, Kano, announced his intention to digitalize all financial transactions within the government circle to fight corruption and ensure transparency.

He decried the discovering of multiple expenditures in some MDAs.

He described Kano State’s revenue generation as low, compared to other states like Kaduna, which generates N10 billion, while Kano grapples with N1.6 billion.

Yusuf emphasized that relying solely on federal monthly allocation would not pay salaries, fund development projects, provide infrastructure and social amenities.

He insisted on improved IGR in Kano.

In his remarks, the chairman of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti Corruption (PCAC) Muhiyi Magaji Rimin Gado, described corruption as, “a killer in all ramifications, benefiting only individuals and not the state.”

He commended Yusuf for giving free hand to PCAC and the IGR management team to sustain regulations.

Yusuf, however, directed all MDAs to comply with the revenue harmonization law 2024, and warned that commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, and the Head of Service would be held responsible for non-compliance.

He emphasized the need for decisive action to fulfill campaign promises, including repositioning ideas for ultimate revenue generation, growth in revenue, and adoption of central billing.
