In a decisive move to support those affected by the devastating Docemo fire incident, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday fulfilled his promise by disbursing compensation to victims of the tragedy.

The fire, which broke out on April 9 at Idumagbo Avenue near Tom Jones, Lagos Island, destroyed several buildings and properties worth millions of Naira, reportedly due to suspected fuel storage.

Sanwo-Olu, who visited the site of the disaster on April 11, assured the affected traders of compensation following a thorough enumeration of those impacted.

True to his word, the Governor presented compensation packages totaling hundreds of millions of Naira to the victims during an official ceremony.

At the symbolic presentation of bank drafts, Sanwo-Olu announced compensation amounts of N2,500,000, N1,500,000, and N750,000, depending on the extent of the losses suffered as determined by the enumeration process.

“We are here today to fulfill the promise we made to you,” the Governor stated.

“We sympathize with all the victims of the incident. The committee has completed the inventory of those affected, and we are compensating people according to the evaluation process. What we are giving you is a bank draft; once you get to the bank, you will receive the money,” he added.

The beneficiaries of the compensation expressed their gratitude for the Governor’s swift and supportive response. Many pledged to use the funds wisely to rebuild their businesses and lives.
