President Bola Tinubu met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday in Beijing, China, for a high-level discussion focused on boosting investment in Nigeria.

Tinubu departed Abuja, the nation’s capital, for Beijing on August 29, 2024, as part of a broader initiative to strengthen Nigeria-China relations.

According to Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, while in China, President Tinubu will engage with President Xi Jinping and hold discussions with Chinese business leaders on the sidelines of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

As part of his visit, Tinubu is expected to tour Huawei Technologies and the China Rail and Construction Corporation (CRCC) to advance the completion of the Ibadan to Abuja segment of the Lagos to Kano high-speed rail line.

The President will also meet with CEOs from various sectors, including oil and gas, aluminum production, seaport construction, and dredging services—industries critical to Nigeria’s economic growth.

The Presidency stated that the series of engagements and meetings scheduled for Tinubu in Beijing are expected to yield immediate and long-term benefits for the Nigerian economy and its citizens.

Ngelale noted, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart for the People’s Republic of China, specifically Beijing, from the nation’s capital within the first week of September, to engage in a series of meetings and activities that will bring immediate and future benefits to the Nigerian economy and people.”

Tinubu’s meeting with Xi Jinping is anticipated to result in the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at deepening cooperation in green economy, agriculture, satellite technology development, media enterprise promotion, blue economy development, and national planning.
