Twenty people have died, and over 2,000 displaced, following devastating flood that have swept through Bade Local Government Area of Yobe since early August, according to the council chairman, Alhaji Babagana Ibrahim.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gashua, Ibrahim said most of the victims were trapped beneath debris from collapsed mud houses. The floods have destroyed more than 10,000 houses and farmlands in over 200 communities.

Among the hardest-hit villages are Misilli, Lawan Musa, Dagona, Dala, Katuzu, and Sabongarin Gashua. The displaced are currently sheltered in three camps: Goodluck, Zango 2, and Babuje, with the council providing food despite limited resources.

Former Senate President, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, donated N10 million to support the victims, while the state government is distributing non-food relief items.

Ibrahim called on the federal government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to step in as the number of affected residents continues to grow.

“The scale of this disaster is beyond Bade’s capacity to handle. We urgently need federal intervention,” he pleaded.
