Denzel Kwateng, the man involved in a fatal revenge shooting in Mitcham has been jailed following a detailed investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Kwateng, 22, from New Addington, was found guilty on 30 May of the manslaughter of Tyrese Miller, 22.
He was sentenced at the Old Bailey on 4 July to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 16 years.
Kwateng was also convicted of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, as well as perverting the course of justice.
Two other individuals, Cheick Cisse, 29, from Thornton Heath, and 18-year-old Mario Serban from Greenwich, were also convicted of firearm possession with intent to endanger life.
Cisse received a seven-year prison sentence, while Serban was given an 18-month youth rehabilitation order.
According to Met Police, the court heard that Tyrese Miller was shot and killed in Mitcham in the early hours of 4 April 2023.
The shooting occurred just hours after a male known to Kwateng and his associates had been stabbed in Croydon on 3 April 2023.
On 6 April, Cisse and a 17-year-old were spotted acting suspiciously near Gloucester Road.
Police stopped them in a taxi and found a shotgun used in the shooting, along with ammunition. Forensic analysis linked the shotgun bag to Kwateng, whose DNA was found on it.
Although Kwateng admitted to possessing the gun, he claimed it had fired accidentally, killing Tyrese.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who led the investigation, said, “We meticulously gathered evidence using CCTV, forensic materials, and mobile data to trace the events of that night. I’ve spoken with Tyrese’s family, and while the trial didn’t provide all the answers they hoped for, I hope today’s sentences bring them some comfort.”
