The Super Eagles of Nigeria will kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic this Saturday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, aiming for revenge.
The Cheetahs, managed by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, shocked Nigeria with a 2-1 victory in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers just three months ago.
This marked the Super Eagles’ first competitive defeat to their West African neighbours, leading to the dismissal of George Finidi as head coach.
With big names like Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Victor Boniface available, the Super Eagles are set to come out strong. Fans can catch the action live at 5 p.m. on DStv Channel 204 and GOtv Channel 62.
Now in his fourth stint as Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen expressed confidence ahead of the match against Benin Republic and the upcoming game against Rwanda.
“I’ve been called to turn things around, and I’m confident we’ll secure victories in both matches. We have the players, resources, and support—everything we need. All I ask for is full commitment from everyone toward our shared objectives,” Eguavoen stated.
Nigeria is placed in Group D alongside Rwanda and Libya, who played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday. The Eagles will travel to Rwanda on Tuesday for their second group match.
