Flora Ugwunwa added a silver medal to Team Nigeria’s tally at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, finishing second in the women’s F54 javelin event on Saturday.

Ugwunwa’s best throw of 19.26 metres earned her the silver, improving on her earlier attempts of 18.00m, 18.24m, 18.68m, and 18.40m. Her final throw measured 17.50m.

Uzbekistan’s Nurkhon Kurbanova claimed gold with a world record throw of 21.12m.

Kurbanova, who also won bronze in the women’s shot put F54, dominated the event with a series of powerful throws, including 20.07m, 21.02m, and the record-breaking 21.12m in her fifth attempt.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that with Ugwunwa’s silver, Team Nigeria now has one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, placing the country 52nd in the medal standings as the Games conclude on Sunday.

The 40-year-old has now won her 3rd consecutive medal at the Paralympics: two Gold medals (Rio & Tokyo) and now Silver (Paris).
