Popular media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa, has opened up about her evolution in the acting industry, sharing both the challenges and achievements she has faced.
The actress, who has steadily been making a name for herself in Nollywood, shared a post reflecting on her journey so far in 2024.
Toke revealed that she has worked on five movies this year alone, signaling her growing presence in the film industry.
In a statement, she expressed gratitude for her progress and the variety of roles she has been offered.
“5 movies with yours truly, the second half of the year and I’m fully in my Acting Bag. Thankful for growth, grateful for versatile roles too. I’m really doing this guys,” she wrote, showing her enthusiasm and commitment to her craft.
However, the journey has not been without sacrifices. Toke admitted that in her pursuit of success, she has missed out on numerous personal and social opportunities.
“There has been a lot of sacrifice too. I’ve missed out on so much fun things happening but there’ll always be time to turn up some more. Once I commit to something, I chase it with everything,” she added.
The media star also took the opportunity to share some valuable life lessons with her audience, particularly addressing those who are goal-oriented. She urged them to remain open to life’s unpredictability and trust in divine timing.
“3 years ago I moved to LA with the thought of becoming the next Nigerian to break into the world of acting out there, I was so sure it was the next move, started taking classes too. God said not yet. But gave me room to grow back home.”
“LAST ONE I PROMISE, TAKE YOURSELF OUT OF THE ‘CONTEXT’ OF HOW YOU THINK YOUR LIFE WILL HAPPEN. IT’S GOOD TO HAVE A PICTURE IN YOUR HEAD OF WHAT YOU WANT OR THINK YOU SHOULD BE BUT LET GOD WORK IT OUT. LET GO, STAY FAITHFUL AND SHOW UP EXPECTANT,” she advised.
Toke also reflected on her journey, recounting her move to Los Angeles three years ago, with aspirations to break into Hollywood.
Despite her high hopes, she acknowledged that the timing wasn’t right, and now, looking back, she is grateful for the chance to grow in Nigeria first.
“I look back now and I’m thankful it didn’t happen cos I was not half as confident or even good or ready for the job. Today I’ve grown, I’m still learning but I’m much more confident. The dream is not wrong, the timing must be right to protect you,” she concluded.
