The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) has reaffirmed its commitment to driving Ondo State’s blue economy ambitions, calling for the establishment of a Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
During the Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Tertiary Institutions’ oversight visit, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Temi Ologunorisa emphasized OAUSTECH’s pivotal role in promoting the blue economy through its NUC-approved programs in Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and others.
“Establishing a Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy will unlock Ondo State’s vast coastal potential, create new economic opportunities, and position the state as a Blue Economy leader,” Prof. Ologunorisa stressed.
He urged the state government to: complete abandoned projects, including the Maritime Academy at Ugbo Nla and the iconic School of Science Building, increase investment in infrastructure to accommodate the growing student population, and promote the blue economy through strategic partnerships.
Commending Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s support, Prof. Ologunorisa expressed optimism that the state government would prioritize the completion of OSOPADEC and NDDC projects.
The ODHA committee assured that decisive actions would be taken to complete the projects, paving the way for Ondo State to harness its coastal resources and drive sustainable development.
With OAUSTECH at the forefront, Ondo State is poised to become a hub for Blue Economy innovation and entrepreneurship.
